MILAN (Bloomberg) -- Fiat Group is facing delays producing vehicles in Europe after a supplier stopped delivering plastic components used in Fiat 500 minicars and Maserati sedans. Fiat's Maserati plant near Turin has been stopped for at least four days because of the halt in supplies from Selmat Automotive, a Fiat representative said. The automaker's factories in Poland, where Fiat builds its iconic 500, and Serbia, where it produces the roomier 500L, have faced delays in production this week and last week, the spokesman said. "Fiat is facing serious damages" because of the components shortage with "thousands of workers" affected, the company said in a statement. Selmat CEO Enzo Maccherrone said the company informed Fiat one month ago that it was going to stop production from April 29 to May 2 and that it's delivering its car parts normally again now. Selmat supplies Fiat and Fiat Industrial with 7,000 kinds of plastic products. "Fiat is making all this noise just because they wanted to buy my company at a bargain price," said Maccherrone, whose company employs 1,000 workers and had about 150 million euros in revenue last year. Fiat had no comment on his statements. Fiat, which controls Chrysler Group, is boosting production of upscale models in Europe, including the $130,000 Maserati Quattroporte, as it targets to end losses in the region by 2016. Fiat's European business had a loss of more than 700 million euros ($908 million) last year. The components shortage also hit production of trucks at Fiat Industrial's Iveco plant in Spain.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story gave the wrong year for McNabb's move to Maserati. It was 2009. WASHINGTON -- Volkswagen of America has hired Maserati North America CEO Mark McNabb, a former Nissan and General Motors sales executive, as its COO. McNabb, 51, will start at Volkswagen on May 1, the company said in a statement today . He will report to CEO Jonathan Browning and oversee U.S. sales as VW continues an ambitious growth strategy. The company gets an "A-list player" who has steered small brands and large ones, Browning said in an interview. He said that experience could aid the VW brand, which broke into the top 10 in U.S sales last year by selling 438,133 vehicles, more than double its 2009 volume. VW is shooting for 800,000 sales by 2018. "It's about continuing to manage and drive the growth of the business here in the U.S. and manage the added complexity that comes with that growth," Browning said. The move also gives VW a management structure similar to that of sister brand Audi, where COO Mark Del Rosso oversees the dealer network. Before moving to Maserati in 2009, McNabb spent 13 months at General Motors, where he was in charge of Cadillac and led the search for buyers of Saab and Hummer before GM's bankruptcy. Before that McNabb worked 20 years with Nissan and Infiniti, ultimately becoming senior vice president of sales and marketing at Nissan North America Inc. Under McNabb, Maserati's U.S. sales rose 49 percent in 2010 and 22 percent a year later. An 18 percent gain in 2012 brought annual volume to 2,730, ahead of VW's Bentley in the U.S. sales standings. Maserati's sales this year through March are down 9 percent. Maserati said Wednesday that McNabb had left the company and will be replaced by Robert Graczyk, most recently Chrysler Group's director of sales for the Asia Pacific region. Chrysler and Maserati are units of Fiat S.p.A. McNabb will oversee aftersales and customer experience in addition to sales. Frank Trivieri, executive vice president of sales, and Robert Martell, vice president of customer experience, will report to him. Volkswagen's chief marketing officer, Timothy Mahoney, left in late February to take the same title at Chevrolet. Volkswagen said that interim chief marketing officer Wayne Brannon will continue to report to Browning. PRESS RELEASE: VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA APPOINTS MARK C. MCNABB AS COO Herndon, VA - Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today announced the appointment of Mark C. McNabb as Chief Operating Officer for the VW brand. McNabb, 51, will join the company effective May 1 and will be responsible for the management of Sales, Aftersales and Customer Experience for the brand. McNabb will report to Jonathan Browning, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group of America. McNabb, most recently President and CEO of Maserati North America for the past four years, comes to VW with more than 25 years of experience in the automotive business. "As our brand grows and we continue to invest in new products and production capacity here in the U.S. and North America, it is important that we also keep adding to the talent pool available to our Group", said Browning. "Mark brings a wealth of automotive and leadership experience, has managed both large and small organizations, and will contribute to the strategic and operational oversight of our business." McNabb served in numerous business development, sales and marketing positions at Nissan in the U.S. for nearly 20 years before venturing from Nissan and working for Mercedes Benz, General Motors and Maserati. He has held numerous officer-level positions in each of these companies andndash; leading Sales, Marketing, Product Planning and Parts and Service at different times in his career. "Most recently, Mark was not only in charge of Maserati North America, but also led the development of Maserati's commercial interests across the globe," added Browning. "He has a strong history of working in global enterprises, and doing so in a collaborative, cross-functional way." About Volkswagen of America, Inc.
